While some in this class have been living in this city for almost 20 years, the majority of our group  in this class are new to the city of New York. Here on this blog you will get a chance to get to know them, their dreams and what they hope to acomplish while they live in the city of New York.

My name is Enni Almanzar
we were both born and have lived in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.


we have lived together in  New York for 10 months.
One place we would both like to visit in New York City is Staten Island.


One thing we would like to accomplish living in New York City is to be able to speak English well enough to find a good job.


Some things we miss about my Native Country are:
  • The Beaches


  • The Rivers
  • The Food
  • The Restaurants
  • The Beer
  • The Parties
Some things that we like about living in New York are:
  • The Opportunity for my children and I to study
  • Good food


  • The opportunity to make money
Some similarities between our Native Country and our New Country are that they both have:
  • Similar transportation systems



  • Both the leaders are called "President".
Some differences between our Native Country and our New Country are:
  • Our Native country is ALWAYS hot and My new Country has four different seasons
  • In our Native Country we speak Spanish and in my new country we speak English.
Our favorite Spanish Language song is called:

My name is Katherin Mejia. I was born in Moca, Dominican Republic. I have been living in New York for 4 months.


One place that I would like to visit in New York City is:
  • The Statue of Liberty


I would like to graduate from college while I live here in New York.


Some things that I miss about my native country are
  • The food
  • The people
  • The rain because it relaxes me

My name is Maria Plasencia. I am from Santiago, Dominican Republic.


I have been living in New York for 20 years.

One place that I would like to visit in New York city is the Museum of Natural History.

A great accomplishment for me living in New York City would be for me to see both of my children graduate college.


Some things I love about my Native country are:

One similarity between my native country and my new country is that both countries have a President that is in charge of the country.


One difference between my native country and my new country is that in the city where I live today the buildings are taller than in the city where I grew up.

I have been living in New York City alone for eight months.

While living in New York City I would like to be able to learn English and have a better future for myself.

My name is Maria Torres and I was born in Cartegena, Colombia and lived in Bogota, Colombia.




I have been living in New York for five months.


Some places that I would visit in New York are:
  • Yankee Stadium


  • Coney Island Aquarium
  • The Statue of Liberty
  • The Museum of Natural History
While living in New York I would like to be able to speak English very well.
I also would like to get a good job and become an American citizen in 4 years.

  • The family

Some things that I like about living in New York City are:
  • The transportation system especially the Subway
  • The English language

Some Similarities between my native country and my new country are that both countries have a President and both countries also have racism.


Some differences between my native country and my new country are that different languages are spoken, the transportation system and the buildings are taller in America than in Columbia.

My name is Sadeichi Rivera.
I am from San Pedro de Macoris Con Suelo, Dominican Republic.
I have been living in New York City for seven weeks.
Some places that I would like to visit while I live in New York City are:
  • The Statue of Liberty
  • Times Square


  • Macy's
Some things I would like to accomplish while I live in New York City are being able to speak English fluently and bringing my two daughters to this country so they can take advantage of the opportunities that America has to offer.


Some things I like about my native country are:
  • The Rivers

Some things I like about living in my new country are:
  • The opportunity
  • The ability to receive a good and free education
